Is it illegal for someone to put their hand in a car and take something?
The situation is that a school security guard would not open the gate because it was 7:38 and they close the gates at 7:40. I asked them to open up the gates, since it is now 7:39. They said I am late and I need to go around. I said no, and its not 7:40 yet. He reached his hand inside my car and ripped off my parking decal (which I paid $50 for) and he said, “too bad park somewhere else.” with attitude.
As far as I know, it is illegal to take something from inside a car without their permission.
Can I have a law suit? Do I have to have a police report?
Being that the person is a private security guard and not a police officer, this certainly sounds illegal. If the security guard works for the school and your parking permit, which you paid for came from the school, you should first contact your school. If you feel that your safety is threatened, then by all means make this known. Just remain courteous and assertive about the matter.
